Fabrics by Kaffe Fassett
American artist, Kaffe Fassett has made his home in London, England for the past 40 years. Born in San Francisco, he was raised in Big Sur where his interest in art was nurtured by his Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, all painters. A free spirit, he found work painting commissioned murals, illustrating books, doing set designs for theatre, and selling paintings.
Kaffe's first book was Glorious Knits. His garments contained more color than was "allowed" in sweaters before. The Rowan Yarn Company, founded by visionary Stephen Sheard began producing knitting kits so others could make Kaffe Fassett garments.
Kaffe fell in love with yarn and soon an interest in needlepoint led to his second book, Glorious Needlepoint. At the same time that Kaffe was designing quilts for his first patchwork book, Glorious Patchwork, he traveled with textile artist, Brandon Mably to India to develop woven fabrics for OXFAM. Stephen Sheard of Rowan was approached once more to convince him and Ken Bridgewater of Westminster Fibers to bring these fabrics to market. They did and the Rowan brand of fabric was launched.
